As we approached the
departure lounge to fly to Kenya the distinct absence of passengers
on a normally full flight, brought it home conclusively that we were
visiting Kenya at a very challenging time! On arrival however a very
warm welcome from Bishop Stephen Kiguru with his wife Susan, and a
wonderful Sunday in his church very quickly assured us we were right
in the centre of God’s will.
Monday’s seminar in the WAB
hotel was very well supported. Over 70 leaders came from Mathare and
Kiberia where they had first hand testimony of the recent troubles.
It was very moving to be with people who had either lost loved ones
or who had experienced family members being displaced. Some came
from other places in Nairobi & all fellowshipped well together under
the Lordship of our Saviour Jesus.
Monday evening we met Bishop
Kato who had travelled all the way from Nigeria. We all arrived in
Entebbe & were delighted to meet Peter & Rose who took us to a very
well chosen venue, Banana village. Bishop Augustine from Rwanda
arrived & our team was complete.
Bishop Peter had prepared a
good programme & our time together was truly of good quality as we
prayed, shared and reported some of the things the Lord had been
doing among and through us. It was good to stand with our recently
bereaved brother Augustine. We heard of good ministry in Kenya and
how he plans to go to Burundi this year. We also plan to begin LHM
radio programmes in Rwanda this year. It was good to fellowship with
Bishop Stephen who is emerging from a very tough time in his
ministry. Stephen shared with us about very encouraging ministry in
Kenya, the Congo and Malawi. From Bishop Peter it was good to hear
of church planting, good ministry in Uganda & also effective
ministry in Tanzania. Peter and Rose have so much to offer these
leaders. Bishop Bitrus continues to encourage with his lively faith
and excellent reports of the TV ministry. Incredibly we discover
that a church had to be planted in one of the areas where the
programme is transmitted because the response to the gospel was so
great. Praise the Lord! We trust to meet up in October next year and
to also travel together to Sierra Leone. A good contact in Zimbabwe,
who alongside someone Stephen knows, means another door is waiting
to open.
We are so pleased that all
these special people spare some time to be part of this team.
Returning to Nairobi we
discovered our friends from Western Kenya and Mombassa have arrived
under the leadership of Pastor James and Pastor George. We heard
encouraging reports from the different areas in Kenya and appointed
a very good friend, of the ministry Pastor Silas to be secretary of
L.H.M. Kenya. We also heard from Pastor Isaac working in the Congo,
Pastor Wandii in the Sudan and Pastor Nelson in Tanzania. An
offering was raised from the delegates, which was given to these
servants in countries outside Kenya We were pleased to distribute
200 Bibles on this day thanks to the generous giving of friends of
L.H.M.
Thursday was to be an
historic day for Kenya. After our L.H.M. Kenya A.G.M. we gathered to
watch President Kibaki & Mr. Odinga announce an agreement for a new
way forward in Kenya. Praise the Lord!
Friday saw another 70+
gather for a pastors’ seminar. The teaching was well received
including a very practical and timely word from Bishop Stephen.
Elaine and I so enjoyed staying in his home and the extra
opportunities for deep fellowship.
As is so often said, “
God is good – all the time: all the time God is good!”
