Matembe  Report 2006

Report on the LHM Mission to Matembe  March 16th – 19th 2006

Matembe is a remote area found in Luweero District. A three hours journey from Kitetikka. The church was planted at the invitation of Major Roland Kakooza Mutale. God used him to lead us to this place. I was wondering how God used a military man to lead us there and a few weeks ago I believe God was telling it was so, so that we will always remember the spiritual warfare involved in the mission to Matembe.

During our first mission to the area we came across Pastor Barnabus who was leading a struggling local fellowship. At that time, culture and many other problems were pulling the church apart. Our new church was in a few miles distance and a few of the members there decided to join us.

Meanwhile, I was feeling for this young leader, how he was going to handle the loss, wondering whether I was going to allow the intending transfers to come and join us, or to just advise them to go back and strengthen their former group, he himself showed up and was joining us too.

Many questions that were beginning to accumulate in my mind were answered in this one transfer. Praise the Lord! At that time, I was trying to find a leader for the new church. When Bernabus showed up, surely we did not need any other apart from him. A wonderful young man uneducated but not willing to learn. This makes him the most suitable leader of the Matembe church.

A miracle of Provision in the remote area, as God provided for the construction of what one could call a city church. Full sitting capacity is 400 people. About 70 adult people and many children record regular attendance at present. Praise the Lord for this wonderful provision!.

Conferences like the one we hold in Matembe and other areas, are so important for both host churches and neighbouring ones. The church membership, neighbouring churches and their leaders, benefit from fellowship opportunities, learning together and answering questions.

March 15,16, 17,18, 2006 was a great time. Pastor Godfrey Lwanyaga, Harriet Lwanyanga, Rose and I had an opportunity to minister in Matembe. Five souls came to the Lord including a 90+ old man called Ibrahim. Baptism will take place on the 22nd April 2006. the new converts there will be transported to Lake Victoria together with any others at Kitetikka who may have not had the blessing of baptism.

127 adults registered attendance and we had lots of children including "Good Samaritan Choir". They are led by their matron Miss Pauline Nalwadda.

Mathew will know her as he has been praying for her return to the school.

I also met Fred Senkubuge, 2 years lacking Parental care and love. Pray for Fred. My heart was in many ways left in Matembe, but more so for Fred.

The rain was in corrects Through the remaining bit of the roof, through the spaces of the windows and doors, and who knows where else? the meeting was halted for two cold hours after wards we found a few things to thank God for and we continued. God had protected us, remembering very well what had happened at Kalerwe the previous 2 weeks.

The house of the old man who gave us land for the church was swept away.

Pray that God will help him as he is very old and on treatment for what has been called an incurable disease. The mission was worthwhile. Two of the converts are known to have been some of the worst enemies of the cross in the area. Secondly answering the questions some of them from very frightening curiosity, I humble and worship the Lord! How can the faith those dear ones survive with so many wild pricks of doubt? My accommodation in Luweero could allow me late knight time to study and pray before answering so many complicated questions on marriage, family planning, assurance of forgiveness, and God's sovereignty.

Thank you very much all of you for your prayers and so much indeed to Living Hope Ministries for the financial support they raised for this worthwhile mission to Matembe.

Future mission trips will be as the Lord provides. He makes provision for the vision. He is the Lord!

God bless you richly,

Pastor Kasozi Peter Cephas.
