BUSHENYI (2007) REPORT
Thank you very much Richard and the entire
Living Hope Ministries for your support both in prayer and
finance for the mission.
Rose and I set off for the journey at 8.00pm
on Wednesday 18th July 2007. We drove half way through the journey
so as to hit the starting time of 10.00am the following day. We
stopped for lodging just after mid-night We had a good rest and time
to pray while away from the busy Kitetikka routine.
The Bushenyi conference went as on schedule
apart from a change in the starting time. Something not very
unusual. We had a great time on Thursday 19th July 2007 and Friday
20th July 2007. All morning people were still arriving and we
officially opened the conference early afternoon.
It was great to have the normal Bushenyi
attendance this time with more pastors. Pastor Zaddock
Biryareebwa, Pastor John Tindyebwa and Pastor John Twinamasiko
were the key leaders.
A good number of people participated
including one of the Bishop's wives and Rose. My message was on
assurance. I had wanted to cover more aspects of this subject but
all I had time for was the aspect of forgiveness.
Over four hundred people were fed for two
days and three nights. Many thanks to all who contributed
generously for this mission.
Many of the folk there would remember
Richard, Matthew and David. They asked me to greet all of you. This
was a great privilege for me and I am looking forward to going again
next year.
God bless you richly.
Peter.
Peter Kasozi has sent some pictures also he is planning to bring

Peter and Rose have been serving the Lord in Uganda together for over ten
years. During that time they have established a school at
Kitetikka just
outside Kampala. Currently this school educates 800 children ranging from 5
- 16 years. £10 a month makes a lot of
difference to these children.
They
can be fed and educated in a Christian environment. These children are
growing up in a place where there is aids, malaria, poverty and witchcraft
so they need our support.
Also they run a farm, they have planted numerous churches and organise
teaching seminars for Pastors in Kitetikka, Mympere, Biseruka, Bushinee,
Jinja & Matembe on behalf of Living Hope.
Peter has an office at the church in Kitetikka. We are developing a
resource centre for Pastors there.
Peter
also founded another school at Kiti, a short distance from Kitetikka
but a distinct area. He also recently planted a church in Matembe.
Pastor Matthew Wright and I have visited this very needy area. There is
still the aftermath of troubled days under Obote and the need for
medical care as well as education, a church and Bible teaching is great.
Kitetikka church is Peter's base and the whole area has been greatly
improved by support from friends over several years. However as the
Uganda base it has the potential for further development as a training
centre.
Peter himself has lived through very difficult times. His mother died
when has was very young and his step mother tried to poison him. He
found some refuge as a street boy begging and was near to death on more
than one occasion as soldiers rounded up people to execute.
Peter and Rose now find themselves wholly occupied helping others.
Let us help them to do that work. We encourage you to support this
servant of God. To find out how you can do this please click on the
contact link and email Richard for more details.
Economy: A healthy economy in the 1960s, but spoiled by Amin's expulsion of the Asian business community in 1972, then ruined by years of warfare. Good soil and two annual growing seasons make Uganda fertile, but 90% of export income is from coffee, the value of which has halved in three years. Attempts to reduce military spending and curb corruption have had meagre success. The death rate from AIDS among people of working age will have a serious affect on the economy. Public debt/person $161. Income/person $250 (1.2% of USA).
Politics: Independent from Britain in 1962. An attempt to delicately balance the political powers of the southern Bantu kingdoms and northern Nilotic peoples ended in 1967, when the northerner Milton Obote took complete control, favouring his own tribe, the Lango. Anarchy increased until Idi Amin seized power in 1971. The crazed dictatorship of Amin brutalized the country as the army pillaged and murdered with impunity. Amin's invasion of northwest Tanzania in 1978 provoked a
vigorous response, and in 1979 Tanzanian and Ugandan exile troops deposed the military regime, restoring Obote to power. Continued inter-tribal warfare and government incompetence racked the country. Yoweri Museveni gained power in 1986 and has gradually brought a measure of stability unknown for 25 years. A paternalistic partial democracy, but with the large army wielding considerable influence. A new constitution was being hotly debated in 1993, and a full-fledged multi-party system will probably soon be adopted.
Religion: RUnder Amin there were restrictions and intense persecution of Christians. There is now freedom of religion.
