Does my 33p a day really
buy all the education for a
child?
The schools we support are
run efficiently and on a
very tight budget. There is
no waste, teachers will
often give of their time for
free and the managers are
accountable to the charity
for every penny donated.
33p a day amounts to £10 a
month and this will pay for
all the child’s school
fees. Very importantly they
will receive one free school
meal each day. The schools
are encouraged to find
creative ways of supporting
themselves so that they are
not dependent on Western
Aid.
How much of my donation will
be spent on charity
administration?
The answer is simple –
NONE. All of your donation
will go directly to those in
need. Our Making Poverty
History Campaign is run
entirely by volunteers who
give of their time and
personal resources. For
example Ray Butler who is 70
years of age has supported
Living Hope Ministries since
the charity was first
formed.
If I can’t afford £10 a
month can I pay less?
Yes, we have several
sponsors who pay 15p a day
or £5 a month. Please
give what you can it makes a
vast difference for example
- £5 a month converts to
15,000 Ugandan shillings.
Are the African people
really poor or are they just
poor in comparison to the
western income?
It is true that poverty is
relative. Obviously there
is a big difference in the
cost of living between the
continent of Africa and the
U.K. or North America.
Nevertheless all of the
sponsored children are
either orphaned, usually
from aids, or come from
families on less than the
United Nations definition of
poverty as being an income
of “A dollar a day” or
less. One dollar in
Kampala, Uganda would
purchase 3 bottles of
water. This gives some
indication of the desperate
situation that many of our
children are in.
If I sponsor more than
one child will I receive a
report for each child that I
sponsor?
Yes!!! You will receive a
report for each child that
you sponsor. Your money
does not go into a general
fund, it goes directly to
the school to pay for each
child’s education.
