Make a difference to the world poor  Just 33p a day will make a difference to the world poor

Yes 33p a day can change the life of a destitute child in some of the world’s poorest places.  We need your support to offer education to children affected by the Tsunami, African children orphaned by aids or caught in a poverty trap.

Sponsor a child for 33p a day and you will receive a picture of the child you are sponsoring and two reports each year giving you information on how your child is doing.

STORIES OF HOPE

Rose - 4 years, Kiteitka, Uganda, Africa

Rose had nowhere to live

Rose had nowhere to live and no school to go to.

A UK child offered to pay 33p a day from her pocket money and now Rose attends Kitetika Primary School about 9 miles from Kampala.  Not only does Rose receive her education for free but has been given accommodation on the school site.

Its not exactly luxurious – a small chalet built underneath some concrete steps and platform on the school grounds – but it is safe and secure. Last week we received her report.

She is doing well - in fact she is top of the class.  Well done Rose we hope you continue to make good progress.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING US HOPE

Frequently asked questions

Does my 33p a day really buy all the education for a child?

The schools we support are  run efficiently and on a very tight budget.  There is no waste, teachers will often give of their time for free and the managers are accountable to the charity for every penny donated.  33p a day amounts to £10 a month and this will pay for all the child’s school fees.  Very importantly they will receive one free school meal each day.  The schools are encouraged to find creative ways of supporting themselves so that they are not dependent on Western Aid.

How much of my donation will be spent on charity administration?

The answer is simple – NONE.  All of your donation will go directly to those in need.  Our Making Poverty History Campaign is run entirely by volunteers who give of their time and personal resources.  For example Ray Butler who is 70 years of age has supported Living Hope Ministries since the charity was first formed.

If I can’t afford £10 a month can I pay less?

Yes, we have several sponsors who pay 15p a day or £5 a month.    Please give what you can it makes a vast difference for example - £5 a month converts to 15,000 Ugandan shillings.

Are the  African people really poor or are they just poor in comparison to the western income?

It is true that poverty is relative.  Obviously there is a big difference in the cost of living between the continent of Africa and the U.K. or North America.  Nevertheless all of the sponsored children are either orphaned, usually from aids, or come from families on less than the United Nations definition of poverty as being an income of “A dollar a day” or less.  One dollar in Kampala, Uganda would purchase 3 bottles of water.  This gives some indication of the desperate situation that many of our children are in.

If I sponsor more than one child will I receive a report for each child that I sponsor?

Yes!!! You will receive a report for each child that you sponsor.  Your money does not go into a general fund, it goes directly to the school to pay for each child’s education.

How do I donate my 33p a day?

Sponsoring a child is simple.

Contact us with your name and address, we will send you a standing order form. Use the email link below.

You can contact us at any time if you want help completing the form.

Return the completed form to us.

We will write to you with the details of the child you sponsor.

What If I decide afterwards that I want to cease my standing order?

Simply contact your bank and request that the amount no longer be paid.  You will not be inundated with junk mail from the charity.

Gift Aid a donation

You can make a one of donation.  If you are a British tax payer completing a gift aid form  will mean that the government gives 28p for every £1 you donate.
